Mikal Bales
I have just been informed that Mikal Bales (known to the world as Daddy Zeus) passed away on November 9th, 2012, at the age of 73. People tend to say that until Bound & Gagged came along there was nothing in the way of male-male bondage out there, but that was hardly true. There had been a bunch of male bondage photo books, and there was already Daddy Zeus making videos out of Zeus Studios in Los Angeles. Zeus was an excellent name for the studio, since the videos featured powerful, muscular men—virtual gods—in real rope bondage. Mikal was very much the godfather of such sites as BoundGods.
He and I lived on different coasts, and never became more than very friendly acquaintances, but everyone who knew Mikal loved him, and I can understand why. In a business crawling with creeps, he was friendly and straightforward and very honest, with a real love for what he did. He leaves a legacy of some 150 videos, and will be sorely missed.
