A reader who wrote me a very kind letter in response to my non-relaunch email the other day, requested this story, which was originally posted in Issue 44 (Jan/Feb 1995). How could I possibly refuse? The accompanying illustrations were by a Finnish artist named Julius.
BONDAGE WINDS IN JAMAICA
CEDAR FALLS, IA. This is the story of a vacation to Jamaica I took a few years ago. The company I work for offered a reward to all management if the revenue goal for the year was achieved. The reward was a thousand dollars towards a trip for two anywhere. When the goal was met I had to decide where to go. But, harder than that was who to go with.
Well, the company provided that too. There was this really cute guy at work, Dave, I had been trying to make points with for several weeks. He was a friend of a friend and I had only been out with the two of them a few times. The friend was also nice, but kind of straight. I wasn’t sure about Dave. He was about ten years younger than me and about a foot shorter. This trip presented an opportunity I found hard to believe. I explained to Dave that I was receiving this trip for two and I needed someone to go with me. He jumped at the chance and we started planning where we would go.
