Because I'd like this to be a real forum, I won't edit this reader's comments to my post of August 30th, even if some of what he says sounds a little harsh to me.
Even after all that some of you are going to pull that crap anyway.
I don’t know much about breath control but I do know enough that along with someone else being there, never use anything that blocks or would continue to hinder your ability to breathe if you do pass out for any reason. I am not talking about using something that will break away or come undone, those things hang up and hang you. Take precautions, have multiple backups, tell someone to call you in a set time and then, if you don’t answer, to drop by.
If you are going to try rope self-bondage, be very careful, various rope types bind more than others, don’t practice with one and use another. Rope self-bondage is difficult to do, very difficult because it always leaves you too loosely tied. If you do manage to get it just that little bit tighter, chances are you can’t get yourself loose. Have several pair of scissors reachable, don’t use a knife, a knife can be more lethal than being stuck tied up until you die of thirst. Chopsticks can help loosen a stubborn knot and you can leave lots of them around all the time.
Chain and locks, clips and other quick fasteners are a good choice. Get a package of several locks that all use the same key and there are two keys for every lock (you can order them), then have the keys everywhere and be able to move your hands well enough to use the keys.
This is not about how to do it, it’s about taking precautions if you do! My point is that whatever you do—and you will do it despite warnings—do it as safely as possible and do not go for that inescapable feeling. Find a buddy to do that for you and then leave you alone for a set time period. On the other hand, that isn’t foolproof either, he could be detained, a very long time.
Be reckless and take chances, be cautious, be very safe or anywhere in between, you will anyway, but remember, you will be risking your life even with the best precautions.
Others have done the same thing and died or been left in worse condition than death.
