During one of my first chats with hypnoboy, when I expressed a shared if recent interest in hypnosis, he told me he’d seen an article somewhere just a short while ago about erotic hypnosis in New York. On Recon I checked out some of the people who mentioned erotic bondage in their profiles, and made contact with one man who, it turned out, was the very person about whom that article had been written. I pointed him to my May 5th posting of the hypnoboy chat, and asked him to tell me something about himself and what he does.
(Neil's reply after the jump...)
Here’s Neil’s reply:
The scene "hypnoboy" describes is pretty similar to things I do. I do what I call "hypno-bondage" using triggers. Basically, hypno-bondage is any technique that immobilizes the sub. I use three such techniques regularly:
- A "statue" trigger—similar to what "hypnoboy" experienced. The sub is totally awake and feeling everything, but just can't move.
- A numbing trigger—a trigger to numb specific limbs. When used on all the limbs it effectively immobilizes the sub.
- A rope or cuffs trigger—this trigger gets the sub to believe he's tied up or cuffed.
As for the claim that only a small percentage of people are susceptible to hypnosis, I find that's an excuse used by poorly skilled hypnotists. Nearly everyone can be hypnotized if they allow themselves to be. The notable exceptions are the mentally disabled and those with severe ADHD. Alcohol, most recreational drugs and some medication (anti-depressants and the like) can temporarily prevent someone from going under.
With that said, you have to understand that everyone's mind works differently and as a result everyone reacts to hypnosis differently. Each individual also reacts differently to different hypnotic techniques. A skilled hypnotist knows how to find the right techniques for each person. Some people require more than one session to go under deeply, but that's pretty rare.
Going under is only one aspect of the scene, of course. Responding to suggestions (and triggers) is the main aspect, and here too different people respond differently. Some people experience hypnotically-generated sensations more realistically than others. I find that the statue and arousal triggers work for nearly everyone. The numbing trigger works for most people and the rope or cuffs trigger works well about half of the time, although people with prior bondage experience tend to do better with that.

I'm still not buying this stuff, which sounds like a bunch of hocus-pocus. I would challenge anyone to attempt to hypnotize me in this manner. Hopefully it would work, as this sounds hot, but I somehow doubt it. :)
